
JL Rey
Artistic Director
JL Rey is currently the Artistic Director for Spanish Lyric Theatre/SLT Productions. He is an actor, director, and teacher and a proud member of Actor’s Equity Association and SAG-AFTRA. Mr. Rey was born in Havana, Cuba and spent his early years in Regla, a city across the bay from Old Havana. In 1969, the family migrated to the U.S. and settled in uptown Manhattan, in Inwood.
JL has worked in Musical Theatre, Drama, Farce, Comedy, Operetta, Shakespeare, Opera, Zarzuela, Cabaret, Concert, Film, Television Drama, TV Sitcom, Commercials, Voiceovers, Audiobooks, and Industrials, and has taught acting, audition workshops, and coached monologues, songs, and public speakers in the business world.
Directing Credits include: In the Heights, 5 Lesbians Eating a Quiche, Evita, Godspell, The Laramie Project, 9 Parts of Desire, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Kitchenette, The Life of Juanita Castro, 4 Guys Named Jose Y Una Mujer Named Maria, and In the Time of the Butterflies/En El Tiempo De Las Mariposas.
NY Acting Credits include: Ybor City the Musical, The Life of Juanita Castro, Kitchenette, The Disappearing Man, The Boy Cometh to the Mountain, Corpus, Ghost Dancer, 167 Tongues, Daniel, Alice, A New Musical, Transubstantiation, and The Shadow Box.
Regional Acting Credits include: The Frogs, In the Heights, La Casa Azul, Anna in the Tropics, Hamlet, Romeo & Juliet, La Vida Es Sueño, Evita, The Laramie Project, and Waiting for Godot.

SLT is actively seeking new board members for its Board of Directors. Our idea candidate is someone who can passionately embrace our mission and dedicate a few hours each month to helping guide our programs toward reaching our financial objectives. Requirements include one board meeting per month; sitting on a committee; attending productions and helping the theatre raise local funding.
